Bride’ s father scores own goal by insisting on test… “We had not slept with each other and I believed she was a virgin…”
A Mt Darwin man Onismor Karinga (57) will forever regret the day he insisted on a pregnancy test for his daughter Simangaliso (23).
All had been going well when the lobola team which included mukuwasha Rodwell Zimbende (32) arrived at the Karinga homestead.
Unbeknown to everyone involved Onismor who suspected his daughter was already pregnant had acquired a pregnancy test!
He thought the Zimbendes were in a rush to pay lobola to avoid paying damages which is a common practice in Zimbabwe.
He produced the pregnancy test and demanded that Simangaliso’s aunts go with her to the toilet so she could urinate on the strip.
Auntie Joyce (48) says Simangaliso tried to bribe them so one of the aunts could urinate on the strip.
“Ndakatozviramba ndikati muzukuru chitsotsi hachishande tinotoda dhemeji kana wakadhemejiwa. Iye haana kuzotiudzawo kuti anga asati ambovatiwa naZimbende,” she told The Civilian.
The party went back to a stunned house to show them the positive pregnancy test. Zimbende who is a Zaoga youth stood up to praise the God of Ezekiel.
He declared he had never slept with Simangaliso.
There was pandemonium in the house as Onismor attacked vakuwasha.
He demanded that he wanted the lobola anyway.
He seized the groceries that had been bought and got $500 as ‘fine’ though The Civilian and the vakuwasha party failed to understand what the fine was for.
Rodwell Zimbende is a happy man despite losing the $500 and groceries worth $300 and also fuel costs.
“Ndinotenda nechokwadi chakabuda. Ndaakudzokera kunotsvaga musikana kwaye kuYouth. Izvezvi ndotoda virginity test.”
Simangaliso refused to entertain The Civilian “Imbwa dzevanhu. Mind your hokoso”
The Civilian chose not to follow her advice as in this case her hokoso is more interesting than ours.
